Phoebe Wahl
Award-winning illustrator, author, and surface designer
Phoebe's work spans children's picture books, editorial illustration, surface design, character design, sculpture, zines and comics, plus a separate shop, a Substack newsletter, and an active blog. Her bestsellers include Little Witch Hazel and Phoebe's Diary.
The before
Phoebe came to me after a decade of building her own portfolio sites on Wix. Each one had done a "totally adequate but never fully satisfying job" of representing her work, in her own words. The latest version was carrying an enormous body of work across many disciplines, and the navigation no longer reflected the breadth or coherence of what she was actually making. She wanted a site that felt organic and illustrative, simple to navigate, and homey enough to act as a real hub for her audience.
"It was so helpful to have someone outside my brain take the bones of my vision, and expand them beyond the rigid rules I'd set up in my brain over the years about what my website is supposed to look like."
—Phoebe Wahl
What we did
Working from her existing aesthetic and the layered nature of her business, I built a strategic Squarespace site that gives each part of her practice the space it deserves. Together we:
Built a sitemap that organized her many directions, from picture books to client collaborations to artist resources, into clear, browsable categories
Designed a custom Resources hub with a collapsible accordion menu to hold YouTube videos, free guides, mentoring, blog posts, and tool recommendations in one playful, explorable space
Created dedicated portfolio sections for her books and her client collaborations, letting visitors navigate her work by what they're looking for
Designed a custom visual identity built on her refreshed branding, with illustrated elements, patterns, and animated touches that make the site feel like stepping into one of her paintings
The Result
Anoosha now has a site that holds the full range of her work, from her bestselling picture books to her client illustration to her growing body of educational resources for fellow artists. A real hub, the way she imagined it, with room to keep growing as her practice does.
"She is so big-brained and creative and totally understood what I was trying to achieve. Julie's sitemap helped everything feel clear from the start, and set a perfect foundation for the rest of my site to build off of."
