Dashka Slater
New York Times bestselling author and journalist
Dashka's career spans children's picture books, serious narrative nonfiction for adults and teens, investigative reporting for The New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, and Mother Jones, school visits, keynote speaking, and two Substack newsletters.
The before
Dashka came to me with a Wix site that had been patchworked together over eight years. The aesthetic skewed too young, leaning heavily on the illustrative element of her children's books at the expense of her serious journalism and adult work. She wanted a site that was balanced, clean, and modern. More than anything, she wanted peace of mind knowing her central hub was finally in place and felt good.
What we did
Working from her existing brand sensibility and the dual nature of her audiences, I built a strategic Squarespace site that holds every part of her work in one coherent place. Together we:
Migrated from Wix to Squarespace, set up for her booking agency to manage easily
Split her books into two clear paths so children's audiences and adult audiences each find what they're looking for
Built a dedicated speaking page with self-routing, so prospective hosts can connect with her booking agency directly
Designed a custom visual identity built around botanical illustrations and paper textures, balanced and modern enough to hold both children's stories and investigative journalism
The Result
Dashka now has a site that's an enticing and accurate reflection of her work. The full breadth of what she does, from picture books to investigative reporting to teaching, finally reads as one creative identity. The hairball is gone. The hub is in place.
“Amazing. Love how organized you are and how easy you made it to communicate my half-formed thoughts and ideas. I LOVE it."
